Moor, a council ward in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue state has been sacked and taken over by armed Fulani herdsmen.
According
to a report by Vanguard Newspapers, the crisis, which began in 2013,
has left over 100 persons dead and about 8,000 displaced.
A source privy to the development was quoted to have said: “Moor in Kwande Local Government Area is now an occupied territory.”
“Herdsmen
have sacked the inhabitants from their ancestral homes and taken over
the council ward. The crisis started as far back as 2013 and has led to
the death of over 100 persons and many others injured.”
“All
the local government clinics, including 21 primary and secondary
schools in the area, have been completely destroyed. The indigenes of
the community are refugees in other communities.”
The
Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency,
Boniface Otese, reportedly confirmed the shocking revelation, stating
that the agency had been working to provide the displaced persons with
necessary relief materials.
Meanwhile,
the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, said the Force, army
and other security agencies were working assiduously to make sure the
indigenes of Moor can return home.
